For example, the atmosphere, the sun, the sky, the sea among many others.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2018The\u2019 can also be used with cardinal numbers, such <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">as the first, the second, the third, the fourth, and so on.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We can use it with superlatives. Some examples are the best, the worst, the tallest, the shortest, the prettiest, and many more.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It can be used with names of countries where name refers to a group of states or islands like <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">the USA<\/span>, the UAE, <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">the UK<\/span>, and the Middle East.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is also used before nouns that describe general actions or activities. For example, \u201cI spent most of my day at the<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>swimming pool\u201d and \u201cWe took our cars to the race track.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u2018The\u2019 is also used before abstract nouns that are describing a process or a situation. It can be used in sentences like this: \u201cThe frequency of customers increased after the summer sale.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Conversely, we do not use \u2018the\u2019 before something that is plural. It is also wrong to use \u2018the\u2019 when mentioning a single place like a country or a city.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&gt; <strong>Uncountable Nouns<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some nouns in English are uncountable. This means that they will always be in their singular form.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some of the more common uncountable nouns that students mistake are: advice, advertising, knowledge, food, traffic, entertainment, and happiness.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If a noun is uncountable, it is wrong to use a plural form of it.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>&gt; Noun-Verb Agreement<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is yet another common mistake. The noun and verb must always agree with each other, meaning that if the noun is plural, the verb must be plural as well.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For example, \u201cThere is kids in the playground,\u201d is incorrect, but \u201cThere are kids in the playground\u201d is correct.&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>&gt; Gerunds or [to + Infinitive] Verb<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Students<\/span> are often seen making mistakes when using gerunds and infinitives. They make mistakes in choosing the verbs that follow gerunds and infinitives.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>This has been explained in-depth in previous parts.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&gt; Commas<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>When we are writing, we often link ideas. To do this, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">we<\/span> use words like, however, nevertheless, moreover, furthermore, in conclusion, and though.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Whenever these words are used at the beginning of a sentence, we must place a comma after it.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For example, \u201cIn conclusion, it is important to have good Grammar to score better in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ielts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IELTS<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There may be instances where you have to place it in the middle of the sentences. When this happens, we must place a comma on both sides of the word.<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here\u2019s an example, \u201cRegular exercise is key to staying healthy, however, a balanced diet is just as important.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&gt; Use of Articles before Noun Phrases<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>We should include a\/an before a combination of adjective and singular noun.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Such as: an incredible sight, a large house, a delicious steak, etc.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Sometimes we have to use the word \u2018of\u2019 after a noun phrase, for example, a large number of, a small number of, etc.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&gt; Verb Tenses<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Using the wrong tenses is yet another common and a major error in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ielts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IELTS<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Verb tenses have been explained in detail in the previous parts. Using the correct tense is a crucial part of your Grammar so make sure you do them right.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>&gt; Apostrophes<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Apostrophes are very important. They can change the entire meaning of your sentence if placed incorrectly, so make sure you understand them.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Apostrophes are used for multiple purposes. They are used to make contractions and shorten words, such as, changing I will to I\u2019ll, or changing should not to<\/strong> <strong>shouldn\u2019t.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Apostrophes can also be used to show possession.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>For example, \u201cWe went to the beach in David\u2019s new car.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&gt; Common Spelling Mistakes<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>People often make spelling mistakes as well, and while it\u2019s difficult to be perfect, there is a trick to make lesser mistakes.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The trick is simple, read out loud when rechecking your work. This is simple and extremely effective.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">&gt; Prepositions After Adjectives And Nouns<\/span><\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is a problem faced by many students. They often get confused about which preposition to place after the adjective or noun.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Below are some common prepositions<\/span>:<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">At:<\/span> We use \u2018at\u2019 when we are talking about a skill or<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>ability, such as, bad at something, good at something, amazing at something, talented at something.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">About:<\/span> \u2018About\u2019 is usually used with adjectives of feeling to explain the cause of them. Happy is a feeling, so you can use \u2018about\u2019 to tell that you were happy about the promotion, or perhaps you were nervous about your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ielts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IELTS<\/a> exam.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">With:<\/span> With is similar to \u2018about\u2019 because it too, is used to talk about feelings. However, the difference is that \u2018with\u2019 is used when you are referring to a person. Such as, you were happy with the work your employee turned in.
