The first question of the interviewer could be whether you are comfortable in English or you want any other person to speak in English and you will proceed with another language. Choose always the English language to proceed. The reason behind this is that if you are not comfortable with English then how you can manage to live and study in an English-speaking country and it will reduce the chances of clearing the interview?
- Tell me about your academic background.
Please give a brief history of your education such as school, degree, and other qualifications you have completed along with the details of when you completed and what was your percentage, etc.
- What is your work experience? OR Have you any work experience?
Where you worked, in which field, your designation, job responsibilities, duration, your colleagues, the reason for leaving your job, etc.
- If the interviewer asks you for any additional information.
Please give details of any extra curriculum activity you did that is related to your prospective course.

Describe a detailed reason why this course will be beneficial for you in the future.
- What was your specialization in your undergraduate/graduate course?
Provide a brief description of your specialization which you completed.
- Why you have selected this course? How did you find out about this course?
Give the reasons for choosing this course. It could be:
- The course is related to your interest.
- It is related to your previous qualifications/work experience.
- This course will give you the skills to get your career goal etc.
You have to give all the sources through which you have got the details about this course i.e., the department’s website, the university’s website, or if search it on Google. You have to be very clear on what details you are providing.
- Is this course offered by any University/College in your country? Why are you not studying at that University/College? OR Is this type of course available in your country?
You have to tell the universities/colleges list if any, in your country who offering this course and the reason for not attending there.

You should give an exact answer on the length of the course, and tell them when the course is set to begin and when to end.

Go through the website and check the contents you have to complete during this course. How many subjects do you have to complete in the first semester? What are those subjects and what you are expecting in these subjects if all these are new to you or you have already studied the basics of a few of the subjects in your previous studies etc.?

Go through the website of the university and check every single detail i.e., your course duration, your course subjects, Core & elective subjects, how many subjects you have to complete in the total course and as well as in a single semester, course outcome, and if this course is accredited by any professional body e.g., CPA, ACS, etc.

Tell the university name to which you applied.
- Can you tell me the location of the University you are intended to study in Australia?
You must know the detailed address or location of the university to which you applied and also its surrounding places, shops, hotels, gardens, any famous or special something, etc.
- Why did you choose this university and how did you find out about it? Tell me the names of other universities providing similar courses in Australia. OR Did you do some sort of research before finalizing this University as the final destination for your further education? Tell us the names of 5 universities you have researched for your course in Australia.

- What do you know about the climate of Australia?
They want to know how much you know about Australia as you are going to live there. Study climate of Australia:
- What is your main motive for studying in Australia? Why you have selected Australia only for your higher education? OR Why would you like to go to Australia? OR Why did you choose Australia over other English-speaking countries such as the UK, USA, CANADA, and NZ?
You should be clear about why you have selected Australia only for Higher Education. Why not Canada, the UK, the USA or any other country? Why Australia?

Australian student visas usually allow full-time degree students (undergraduate and postgraduate) to work up to 40 hours per fortnight in the academic year and unlimited hours during summer holidays.

Please give details if you have any relative or friend who will arrange your accommodation or if you are looking for homestay/hostel accommodation then provide the details of that. You have to describe and give all the sources through which you have got the details about Australia and this course. Please give details of all the websites you referred to while deciding on Australia for your higher education.
- Who is your Education Agent?
Here you have to mention your principal agent who arranged your offer letter and eCOE.
- Will you be going home during the semester breaks? OR What will you be going to do during semester breaks?
Provide a truthful answer (yes/no/I don’t know/if you have any other plan).
- Why is your TOEFL/IELTS score so low?
Let them know you have improved and are constantly working to better your skills.
- Why is your TOEFL/IELTS score so high?
Tell them the reasons. Let them know where you have learned and what contributes to your excellent results.
- Are you aware of the student visa rules? OR Are you aware of all the rules and regulations of student visas? / Tell me about the visa conditions.

- Why are you not doing similar programs in India and are there any similar programs available in India? And if yes, why are you then choosing this program with high cost? OR Why did you not opt for the same course in your country? OR How the course selected is different to the course offered in your country?
You have to provide the reason for not choosing India for your higher education. Please check if any of the universities in India are providing a similar course or not. If such a course is available in India, then give a strong reason for choosing Australia.
Some of the reasons could be:
- Indian studies are theoretical based and Australian studies practical practical-based
- The ranking of the university
- The subjects which Australian university is offering is not available in India
- International exposure and international degree
- Recognition of getting a degree from Australia
The case officer can even ask if you compare the tuition costs of Australia and India because you can complete a program in India at a very low cost compared to Australia then why are you spending such money in Australia and do you really think it is worth it? You have to provide a solid reason for not choosing India with lower costs and choosing Australia with high fees.
- Why should you be granted a student visa?
Prepare a list of points in your favour that why you should be granted a student visa and how beneficial it will be to you as well as college/university.
- What will you do if your student visa gets rejected?
You can tell them that you will try again and prepare better for the next time, making sure you will not repeat any mistakes.

- Why don’t you want to stay in Australia after your Education?
For this answer, some reasons that you can give:
- My country is a developing country
- To help in the economy of my country
- To help & also get help from family, stay with family
- What would be the monetary benefit to you after taking up the proposed course in Australia?
International knowledge, skills, and experience will help to work better which will be the reason to earn more.
Mention the career options you are expected to have either as an employer or self-employed person, after your graduation from an Australian university. Let them know about the lack of expertise in your country in the field you are about to study for, and the level of eagerness the country has for filling jobs with qualified people of first-rate knowledge/practice. Get prior information/statistics in your country about the demand of qualified people in the field of your studies. This will add a realistic piece to your answer.
- What is your career goal and how this course will help you to reach your career goal? OR What kind of job you are looking for after completion of your program?
You have to be clear on your career goal. What do you want to be, tell me what you think about the scope of this field. Which skills you will be getting after completion of this course that will help you to reach your career goal? Which subjects you are going to study and how these subjects will help you in future? For, If you are going for an MBA and there is the subject “Communication”, after completion of this subject you will be getting communication skills, you will improve your communication which will really help you to work in an organization.
You have to tell them exactly what you want to be. What is the job profile you are looking for? If you want to open a business then you have to be clear about which type of business you want to open, how much money you have to invest to open it, and what can be other points related to the business.
If you want to work in some big organization then you can name a few of them such as IBM, Infosys, IT, what is the package you can expect after completion of this course and you should be clear on every single point.
- What is the scope of your chosen field in Australia and in India? OR Is your course recognized in India and worldwide overseas and have you done research on it? OR What would you do if you went back to your home country?
Australian studies are globally recognized. You have to check all the details. You can also check on your university’s website if your course is also accredited by any professional body such as CPA, ACS, AHPARA etc. First is whether your course is recognized in India or not. If it is recognized then which big companies are hiring graduates in this stream? E.g., If you are an Accountant/Management/IT student then all these degrees are required in every business and all play a very main role in an organization. You have to be clear on what skills you’ll be getting which will help you too for work/business.
- Do you intend to work in Australia after the completion of your studies?
Please be specific. Be clear if you are intending to work in Australia. You can say that yes you would like to work there just for six to seven months to get some international experience. The reason is if your intention is to work there for a long time or you said any other purpose then the chances of getting a Student visa will decrease because a student visa is for those who are genuinely going with the intention of studies only.
- How can you prove you will return to your home country once you complete your course? OR Will you come back to your home country after the course?
Let them know that the only reason you want to obtain a visa is in order to get an education in Australia, Tell them about your family obligations or career plans after you return to your home country.
- What do you intend to do after the completion of your studies in Australia? OR What is your future plan? OR What would you do after your course in Australia?

- What is the normal cost of living in the city you have selected for your higher education?
Get the details and book your accommodation
- Could you brief me on your tuition fee and living expenses?
You must have the knowledge of all expenses of your abroad.
3. Who would pay for your expenses in Australia?
Tell whether the sponsor person is from your family or a third person.
- How did you plan to pay for your expenses abroad? OR How will you finance your living expenses during the course of your study in Australia?
Here tell who is going to pay and how will you pay. Tell them that you are going to pay according to their payment conditions.
- Do you have any outstanding loans? OR Have you got an education loan?
Provide an honest accurate answer as the information you provide can be verified. If yes, provide the details of the amount and the type of loan.
- What is your total course fee? What amount of the first installation of tuition fees you have paid?
Check your offer letter and eCOE and see your total and semester course fees. You also have to give the details of fees you have paid and how you paid this amount, which all charges are included in this amount i.e., OSHC, admission charges, material charges etc.
- Are you planning to work part-time while in Australia?
As a student visa, you will be able to work part-time on campus for a maximum of 20 hours per week while your academic term is in session and work full time during academic breaks. You could tell your interviewer that If I get an opportunity to work while studying, I would like to grab it to support myself during my stay in Australia but without disturbing my studies. My priority is my study.
- Would you be able to meet your expenses without a part-time job or a part-time will be a must for you?
Tell me that yes, you are able to meet up.

You must know in detail about your sponsor person and his/her family if the sponsor person is not from your family.
